Seminar students,
As I said in class, there is a modification of policy on presentations
in the seminars. Specifically:
- students have to take the seminar for 2 credit hours only. Masters
students have to take it once, PhD students - twice.
- the seminar can be taken either for letter grade or
pass/fail.
-- If you are taking it for letter grade (either MS or PhD
students), you have to make exactly one presentation. Your grade
will be determined based on our: presentation, self-assessment report
and reports on other student's presentations. Attendance is
still mandatory: two missed seminar without excuse
decrease your grade by one; four - your get a failing grade.
-- If you are taking it for pass/fail. You have to inform me by
email within two weeks of classes. If you don't, I assume you are
taking it for credit. Successful passing of the course is
determined by assessment of other student's presentations and
attendance.
- if you are doing a presentation, make sure to file the presentation
form with Marcy.
- Masters students with the non-thesis option. You have to make one
presentation during your program. It does not have to be this
seminar. Any in-class presentation is acceptable. However, you are
encouraged to do it during the seminar since it is specifically
designed for presentations.
- The presentations are to be given in the three slots that we have
available for the seminar (Monday, Wednesday and Friday).
There can be at most two presentations per class.
To register for presentation - send me the title, abstract and
preferred dates. Everyone has to send me the info before October 1,
2011. There may be scheduling conflicts (with Department Colloquium,
or department meetings). I'll try to accommodate you as best I can.
If you are not sure of the topic, email me, I'll give you
suggestions.
Thanks,
--
Mikhail
